![]() In this episode, Char and I talk about some of the benefits of Yoga for people with Parkinson’s, and how she incorporates breathing, mindfulness, and cognition (brain teasers) into her yoga program. She has developed the YogaReach Mindful Movement Program and now teaches Mindful Movement classes for people with Parkinson’s at Be In Motion in Ohio. Char is a compassionate, highly trained, nationally certified school psychologist and certified yoga therapist who has used yoga in her own life as a complementary consistent practice to strengthen and restore her body, retrain her mind, and develop an optimistic mindful lifestyle. Whatever the physical activity, instead of simply working out to master a skill or improve your condition, you can move and breathe in a way that shifts you from feeling busy and distracted to feeling. ![]() If youve considered (or have taken) yoga teacher training, this program will be a little bit different. Riding a bike, lifting weights, sweating it out on a treadmilleach can be a mindfulness practice. Be aware of any sensations, emotions or thoughts associated. Focus your attention slowly and deliberately on each part of your body, in order, from toe to head or head to toe. Lie on your back with your legs extended and arms at your sides, palms facing up. Today I talk with Char Grossman, the director and founder of Yoga Reach. In Mindful Movement, exercise physiologist, somatic therapist and advocate Martha Eddy uses original interviews, case studies and practice-led research to define the origins of a new holistic field - somatic movement education and therapy and its impact on fitness, ecology, politics and performance. Mindful Movement Is a Different Approach. You can also try more structured mindfulness exercises, such as: Body scan meditation.
